Time Portals

I’m not here. I don’t mean that I’m not here in the sense that I the author of this (currently) Billy Goat GRUFF! blog am not physically at the site of the WordPress server nor that I am not physically in your room as you’re reading this nor even that I’m not at a computer as you’re reading this. I mean that I’m not signed on to WordPress at the time that this post will appear or has appeared. I say ‘will’ because as I’m typing this and even when I’m done typing this and am pressing the ‘publish’ button, this post will not be visible to you for some time. I say ‘has’ because when you my gentle reader(s) read this, it will already have appeared.

What I’m Reading

This is one of the two seasons of gift receiving for me. Thus, it should come as no surprise that I received some gifts recently. Anyone who knows me even vaguely is aware that I am a bibliophile - not erotically. I like books a whole lot. I like to read them. I like having stacks of them around. I like it even more when they are neatly placed on bookshelves but since I have more books than bookshelves, I make due with having some of my books in piles. Read the rest of this entry »

Card Games and Sleep

I stayed up late playing a card game with some friends. We conspired against one another and defeated one another. I won as The Network and lost as the Bavarian Illuminati. Who would think such a thing would happen? Not me.

Just when is the winter solstice?

The summer after we graduated, my sweetie and I took a month long trip to Europe and then moved in together. It was like a honeymoon though we didn’t get married until later. As young anti-establishment types of people, we didn’t want to participate in the institution of marriage. I still think the whole idea of having a government involved is a bit nutty. To me, the important parts were standing up in front of all of my friends and telling them, “See this one here: she’s my sweetie. For life.” and getting our two families together so that they could be friends too.

The Smell of Christmas

Somehow or other it seems that the immune systems of the people in my family react to stressful situations. As stress builds, they increase their efforts until they snap. This is a busy time of year. Winter has arrived - or impending winter I should say. It won’t really be winter for another 23 hours and 7 minutes.

What, again?

I made a rule for myself that I’m not posting on days that aren’t divisible by 3. I didn’t make any rule about how many posts I’d write on days that are divisible by 3. Something inspired me to write a post. I could have put this in a comment but it was so inspiring that I felt I wanted to write a whole post. To be sure, this is a short post. But, I like the idea of it being a standalone thing even though it also has links in it and wouldn’t exist but for the linked to content.

Imagined Squirrels

The majority of my online friends are female. Some of the friends have posted pictures of themselves and some have sent me pictures. For the most part, my female friends are quite attractive. A while ago I was lying in bed drifting off to sleep and thinking about whether I’d like them as much if they weren’t so pretty. So, I picked one of them and imagined that she was butt ugly. Morning Swim

Swimming isn’t really my thing. I’ll do it if I have to. Drowning is even less my thing. Counting up the times I’ve swum and comparing it to the number of times I’ve drowned - well, I’ve drowned a grand total of zero times and I’ve been swimming hundreds of times so that’s a factor of infinity more times. Still, I don’t really like swimming. The thing I’ve noticed about water is that it is wet and gets in my nose. Also, I have to either take of my glasses in which case I can’t see or leave my glasses on and they get wet (Again with the wetness - you know, I do have kids: fluids don’t bother me. They never really bothered me but after having kids one simply can’t be bothered by fluids and still function.) in which case I can’t see. I like being able to see. I have this thing with my brain. It is broken. If I can’t see, I get dizzy. When I get dizzy, I feel like barfing. I don’t barf. I just feel like it. I don’t like feeling like barfing. Hence, I don’t like swimming.

Funerals and Counting

It seems like I’ve been attending a lot of funerals lately. I don’t really like them. I do like math though. So, I think about math when I’m at such functions. It sure beats listening to what I think of as religious drivel. Simply thinking about math is a pretty cheerful thing. At the funeral I went to yesterday, I considered where I was and that I found myself in such a place. When I was more youthful, I often found myself at weddings. I rather like weddings though again I’m not so fond of the parts that I think of as religious nonsense.
