Copying Lyrics

On the weekend, a friend and I were sitting in the shade near the playground. The kids noticed that one of the bands playing nearby was playing some Dead tunes. That wasn’t how they expressed it though. They said, “That band is copying The Grateful Dead.” They were offended at the copying. This brought about an upwelling of pride in me. I think that perhaps I have passed on a bit of moral fiber to them. I explained to them that this copying was really a tribute to the Read the rest of this entry »

The Fable of the Chickens and the Hockey Stick

Given that a significant number of the people that I admire here portray themselves as female, I feel that it might be appropriate for me to let them know that my admiration for them is not just intellectual. I admire them as a studly man might admire them. However, my recent writings have not been particularly manly. My goodness! When I think that Saturday, half the time I was calling myself Alice, my heart just goes pitter patter thinking of how feminine I must have Read the rest of this entry »

Changed My Mind

I had a plan about what to write here today. I’ve changed my mind. I’ve slightly altered a few things Read the rest of this entry »

Narcissism

In this post, I (Alice) conduct an interview with myself (ME). I am conducting my own interview because I’m better qualified to ask myself the questions that I want to answer than someone else. If someone else were to interview me and ask me their own questions, I’d give the same answers as I’m giving here but they might make far less sense. Just imagine someone asking about how many socks I like to wear and me replying Read the rest of this entry »

A Swimwear Mystery

Last weekend, it was quite warm. Our van has a refrigerator (so, I’m not really sure that it is fair to call what we were doing camping) but has not cooling system for the human occupied area. Thus, when we were feeling too warm, the best option was wandering down to the river for a dip. There weren’t any showers around either so there was another obvious benefit to going to the river. My sweetie really likes washing her hair in the river. She feels that the river water does a Read the rest of this entry »

Tuning

Due to circumstances that aren’t worth describing, we were camped right next to some people that I describe as ‘yahoos’. I can’t say they were really terrible people. They were there to have a good time and were doing so in their way. They just weren’t in quite the right spot for having a good time they way that they wanted to have a good time. They should have camped a couple Read the rest of this entry »

Inappropriate for and by Children

Over the weekend, my friends were playing a game that I call musical tents. At the time that one of my friends wanted to go to bed, she discovered that her tent was already occupied by two people and thus wanted to find another place to lie down. A conversation about that ensued. Some people thought that the conversation was funny enough to bear repeating however it contained one not so polite word and thus was modified when retold within earshot of children. Here is conversation as it was recounted.

I’m Back

Well. No. I’m not. I’m still not here. I may well be at home but I’m not socializing on the net. If I’m at home, I’m probably asleep. How unfair? Hmm. I don’t know. I have stuff to do. However, I am back enough that I may start catching up on reading things. It is hard to Read the rest of this entry »

Still not here

How can this be? How long can this go on? I might have had a good weekend or it might have been terrible. But, I can’t indicate whether it was good or not because I’m still having my weekend.

The Big Bang vs. The Steady State Model

This is the third time I’ve posted this. Hmm. I wonder if anyone will recognize it.

When I was a child and I visited people that hadn’t seen me in year or more, the people I visited would often say to me, “My how you’ve grown!” It always struck me as odd. I didn’t think I’d changed size at all. I did sometimes think that they had shrunk a bit.
